Jane Broadwater Larew

"Music and dance have always been an important part of my life. I love listening to music as I work in my studio, and so it was a joy to spend time looking at and painting a violin for the Symphony. I knew I was supposed to paint ON it, and I intended to. But the more I looked at the violin, the more I just wanted to make a painting OF IT, an activity that would allow me to understand and to communicate the beauty and elegance of its form."

Jane Broadwater Larew earned her MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Delaware and her BFA from Stephens College in Missouri. She has exhibited locally at the Second Street Gallery and the McGuffey Art Center, nationally in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Denver, Baltimore, Newark and Wilmington DE, and Virginia Beach, and internationally in Germany. She received fellowships from the VA Center for the Creative Arts and the Millay Colony for the Arts in NY and was an International Artists Exchange Fellow to Germany. She was a VA Commission for the Arts "Artist in Residence in Education."

Her works hang in public and private collections in major European cities and in NYC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington DC. She paints in her studio at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville VA where she also teaches.
