"Music and dance
have always been an important part of my life. I
love listening to music as I work in my studio,
and so it was a joy to spend time looking at and
painting a violin for the Symphony. I knew I was
supposed to paint ON it, and I intended to. But
the more I looked at the violin, the more I just
wanted to make a painting OF IT, an activity that
would allow me to understand and to communicate
the beauty and elegance of its form."
