Ben Wager, Bass-baritone

Soloist in the Symphony’s November 16 & 17, 2018 concerts

Ben Wager is a 2009 graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia where his roles included Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Enrico in Anna Bolena, the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte and Padre Guardiano in La forza del destino.

This season, Mr. Wager joins UrbanArias as Edwin Cheney in Daron Hagen’s Shining Brow and returns to his alma mater, the Academy of Vocal Arts, to sing Wotan in its production of Das Rheingold.

2018-19 featured his return to the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for performances of the Police Sergeant in Pirates of Penzance, and to the Deutsche Oper Berlin in a variety of roles, as well as a solo recital with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. He also appeared with Baltimore Concert Opera as Blitch in Susanna and Opera Delaware for the Petite Messe Solennelle.

Previous seasons include wide-ranging roles with Opera San Jose, Minnesota Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, PORTOpera, Nashville Opera, Dallas Opera, Kentucky Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Washington Concert Opera, Opera Cleveland, Chicago Opera Theater, Den Norske Opera (Oslo, Norway) and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

He is a former member of the prestigious Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, and performed a concert of opera favorites with the Cathedral Choral Society in Washington, DC.

Equally at home on oratorio and symphony orchestra stages, Ben Wager has been the bass soloist in Haydn’s The Creation and Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Oregon Symphony; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Mozarteum of Salzberg; Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Oratorio  Society of New York and the Albany Symphony; Haydn’s Creation with Chicago’s Grant park Music Festival; and a series of concerts with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
